In the Malkovich home, in the kitchen, with Lori and Ian. Car Ride: absolutely silent all the way home. Everyone walk into the room. The door shuts loudly.
Evangeline: (Turned and Yelling at Sky) I hate you – how could you do this to me?
Skyler: Oh – so this is my fault now? (Astonished)
Evangeline: You laughed – You went – You didn’t stop them. (Stuttering) I hate you! (Pulls back arm/fist to punch Sky in the Face)
Ian: (Grabs Evangeline’s arm before she punched Sky)
Everyone: (No one moves, staring at Evangeline)
Evangeline: This doesn’t concern you – you’re no better than her! (Ian loosens his grip. Evangeline yanks arm away. Stalks out of the room.)
Everyone: (Room remains frozen for a moment)
Skyler: (Turned to Zooey) Why do I always get blamed for your mistakes! (Walks out of the room, in the opposite direction from Evangeline.)
Everyone: (Moment of Silence)
Amelia: Okay (says in a voice where she is not sure she just understood everything she heard and saw) (Walks out of room)
Whittney: I have a headache (walk out)
Isabelle: (Opens mouth to say something, then stops, walks out silently)
Lori: (Glares at Ian) I’ll take care of this (walks out of the room and up the stairs to the door of Sky’s invention laboratory. Knocks on the door. Suddenly a bunch of noise comes from inside the lab.)
Skyler: You’re gonna have to wait, cause I can’t get to the door. (Angrily)
Lori: (nervously) what are you doing?
Skyler: (Rummaging through stuff) how could she do this to me? ‘I hate you!’ (in voice mimicking E’s) Well you know what? I hate her too! (Pauses for effect) No … I abhor her! Stupid, stupid, stupid! (Mumbles) I know what I’ll do! I’ll build a brainwashing machine! Yes, now I will rule over her! (Pauses) and Zooey (adds quietly) (Pauses one more time, sighs, and sits down) I’m going mad. But brainwashing – good idea! Then I’ll show her! Yes! (Gets to work) (Stops rummaging and gets sad) I wonder if (sniffs) if … she really does hate me.
Lori: (Doesn’t respond, walks away. Finds E on the porch in a rocking chair. Walks up to her and sits in the big chair next to her.) (Silent)
Evangeline: I hate my life. I’m running away.
Lori: Well, before you can leave, let me leave you with one piece of advice. (she pauses as she smiled at E, who was avoiding eye contact with Lori.) When life gets hard and you feel – when you know you’re lost, don’t forget that you can always follow the moon back home.
Evangeline: (Frustrated Sigh)
Lori: (Leaves)
